Convergence Partners investee, FibreCo Telecommunications, has announced the completion of its state-of-the art, fibre-optic networks connecting Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, East London and Cape Town, providing the shortest and fastest optical fibre connectivity between these cities today.
Convergence Partners investee, Internet Solutions, has announced that it has extended its partnership with EMC Corporation by joining the EMC Velocity Service Provider Program as a Gold Partner. IS will deliver a cost-effective, dual-site data replication solution called Cloud Rack that leverages the strong network and data centre capabilities of IS, and is powered by EMC’s storage solutions.
Mark Tinka, Head of Engineering at Seacom, a Convergence Partners investee, says that telecommunications regulators and African governments need to clear away the red tape and regulatory risks around putting fibre in the ground to encourage network operators to invest in sinking fibre into the ground for terrestrial long-distance and last mile connectivity.
Convergence Partners’ investee, SEACOM, has signed an interconnection agreement with Epsilon Telecommunications. With SEACOM preconnected, Epsilon can offer its customers network connectivity to Africa via the SEACOM network as well as carrying African telecommunications traffic globally. Customers of SEACOM in turn have access to Epsilon’s 450+ preconnected network operators around the world.
FibreCo Telecommunications, a joint venture between Cell C, Convergence Partners and Internet Solutions, has passed the halfway mark of the first link of its R5-billion national fibre-optic broadband network. The company said that the construction of 600 km of the targeted 1 000 km stretch from Johannesburg, through Bloemfontein, to East London has been completed.
SEACOM, the pan-African ICT enabler, today announced the appointment of Byron Clatterbuck as its Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) with immediate effect. An industry veteran with more than 15 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry, Byron Clatterbuck has held a number of senior international executive positions during his career, most recently as President of Tata Communications’ Global Service Provider Segment, a company operating the largest private subsea cable system network in the world.

Intelsat, the world’s leading provider of satellite services, and GlobeCast, a leading global content management and delivery company, today announced the launch of the Intelsat New Dawn Ku-band Multi-Channel Per Carrier (MCPC) media platform for Africa. The MCPC platform is being hosted on Intelsat New Dawn, Africa’s first commercial communications satellite, situated directly over Africa at the 33°East orbital slot.
Internet Solutions (IS), has reached the critical mass required to achieve economies of scale in terms of operational capabilities and cost savings with the addition of the new Randview data centre.

Convergence Partners investee company, Seacom, has signed a 20-year connectivity agreement with the Mozambican Government to access international broadband fibre connectivity on its network to Europe and the rest of the world.
